Vice President, Facilities and Operations

Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Vice President, Facilities and Operations contributes to the support of positive tenant and client relations in a customer service-oriented culture; oversees facility, house and stage operations; is responsible for the financial planning and performance of $12-15MM per year in operating expense and capital expenditures; and negotiates and administers collective bargaining agreements with labor unions. This position is a member of the Senior Staff and provides leadership and input to various standing and ad hoc committees.

The Vice President, Facilities and Operations oversees the service delivery departments of Production, House, Engineering and Security and oversees facility operations for both the multi-venue Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and the historic Academy of Music.

With a customer service orientation, the Vice President, Facilities and Operations commits to the expectations and requirements of internal and external stakeholders; successfully mediates conflict between individuals and groups; effectively builds cohesive teams of people and communicates a compelling and inspired vision or sense of core purpose to teams and units; creates a climate in which staff want to do their best and supports equal and fair treatment and opportunity for all staff, as well as fosters a climate of inclusion. The Vice President, Facilities and Operations makes a personal commitment to develop, mentor and train staff professionally in best practices in the industry.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides leadership and direction to all functional operations areas including front of house, production, security, engineering and financial matters pertaining to day to day management of Kimmel Center, Inc. and Academy of Music venues.
  • Develops and implements policies, plans and execution strategies for all Kimmel Center facility utilization with the intent to provide all customers, patrons and facility guests with a safe, excellent and enjoyable experience of the highest quality that is consistent with the vision, mission and reputation of the Kimmel Center.
  • Provides oversight and direction in all union negotiations and collective bargaining agreements with various affiliated unions and locals. Strategically manages union relationships with the goal of improved collaboration and cooperation. Interprets contracts and provides guidance to staff.
  • Provides leadership and management oversight of capital budgeting and forecasting. Provides leadership and guidance in the development of capital planning for the Kimmel Center and the Academy of Music. Support COO and CFO in strategic capital planning and budgeting activities; maintains all capital budgeting schedules.
  • Researches and introduces facilities operations cost-saving measures.
  • Plans and directs operation, engineering and maintenance of building systems. Plans for building improvements.
  • Reviews and authorizes all invoices related to construction, department contracts and payroll.
  • Establishes protocol and standards for staff development, training and evaluation. Oversees operations staff hiring and training in tandem with Director of Human Resources.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Theatre Production, Facilities Management, Hospitality, Business or other related discipline required. Graduate degree in Arts Administration, Theater, Business or related discipline, preferred.
  • Significant operations experience required including represented personnel, ideally in the metropolitan multi-venue complex and historic theatre settings
  • Demonstrated competency in financial analysis, administrative management and organizational agility.
  • Superior working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to direct, supervise and judge the contributions of teams and individuals.
  • Self-motivated and able to handle and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to negotiate, manage conflict and develop people.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with, and clearly communicate information to, a wide range of persons both inside and outside the organization.
  • Ability to attend to numerous projects concurrently, establish priorities, and respond positively, effectively and quickly to continually shifting priorities and needs.
