The Kimmel Center Volunteer Office is currently accepting applications for the following positions:

  • New Position! Volunteer Prospect Research Assistant, Development

  • Information Desk Representatives, evening and weekend shifts only. Volunteers are responsible for providing visitors with information regarding tours, events, dining, performances, and membership. Training will be provided. Information Desk representatives must be dedicated to providing excellent customer service and be comfortable dealing with the public.


  • Education Assistants assist with classroom activities, including greeting arriving school groups, escorting them to the education department, and accompanying the group on a tour of the Kimmel Center. Assistants also help with additional tasks on an as needed basis.


  • Education Tour Guides lead students on a half-hour tour of the Kimmel Center. Guides introduce students to the concept of a regional performing arts center and an overview of the history of the Kimmel Center, the science of acoustics as it relates to a performance hall, and the architecture and construction which make the Kimmel Center unique. Orientation and training will be provided.


Merck Arts Education Center volunteers must be willing to work several times a month on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday during the school year (October - May) when classes are scheduled. Morning volunteers work from 9:30 - 11:30am. Afternoon volunteers work from 11:30am - 1:30pm.

Frequently asked questions

What volunteer shifts are available? How often will I be required to work?
Kimmel Center Volunteer shifts are from 10am-1pm, 1pm-4pm, and 4pm-8pm. Tour Guide shifts are from Noon-3pm Tuesday through Sunday. To be considered an active volunteer, one must work a minimum of 2 shifts per month. All prospective volunteers must participate in an orientation and training period before receiving their regular volunteer assignment.

Can I volunteer to be an usher in order to attend performances?
All ushers will be paid staff. No volunteer ushers will be used for performances in Verizon Hall, Perelman Theater, or The Academy of Music.

What types of volunteer jobs are available?

  • Information Desk is staffed by volunteers seven days a week from 10am to 8pm. Volunteers are responsible for providing visitors with information regarding tours, events, dining, performances, and membership. Training will be provided. Information Desk representatives must be dedicated to providing excellent customer service and be comfortable dealing with the public.

  • Tour Guides are responsible for providing free public tours and pre-arranged group tours of The Kimmel Center and the Academy of Music. Tour Guides will receive tour training, and will successfully conduct a practice tour, prior to becoming a solo guide. Previous tour experience or public speaking experience is helpful. Tours will be offered daily.

  • Administration Volunteers assist in the Kimmel Center offices during regular business hours. Duties vary and may include clerical assistance, computer entry, stuffing packets, and phone calls. Each individual department will provide the necessary orientation or training.

  • Educational Classroom Assistants are needed in the Merck Arts Education Center. Classes are conducted Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and early afternoons. Classroom assistants greet school groups upon arrival, escort them to the classroom, monitor the class, and accompany students on a brief tour of the Kimmel Center. Volunteers lend additional support by helping with mailings, making copies, and performing other administrative tasks on an as needed basis.
